The non-neoplastic pigmentary uveal diseases – including uveal melanosis and pigmentary-cystic (aka Golden retriever) uveitis – can be a real challenge at the microscope. In addition to the typical challenges of accurate diagnosis and prognostication, these conditions have breed predispositions that can mislead the pathologist and clinician to include or exclude the differentials in error. In this workshop we will review distinguishing features, descriptive approaches, controversies, and how to provide helpful comments when the answer is unclear.
